Introduction!

Pakistan is in dire need of intelligent, academically sound and knowledgeable leaders, and political representatives, who can take decisions on behalf of the people, in light of their commendable qualities. As a result the providers of civil services in the country are selected via an examination, now formally known as the Central Superior Services of Pakistan (CSS) which was made binding by the government in the year 1973, under Article 240. The examination tests students on a diverse number of courses, which vary in their content and difficulty level.Due to the ever increasing scope and popularity of the CSS examination, students belonging to the provinces of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are travelling to the bigger cities to prepare for the cut-throat examinations taking place in 2012.

CSS Exam Application Process!
Candidates, who fall into the eligibility requirements stated above, can applyfor the CSS 2012 examinations. CSS exam 2012 applications will be invited all over Pakistan in the month of November or December every year. Federal Public Service Commission of Pakistan (FPSC) has already set the date of the examination for Saturday, February 25, 2012.Government employees who fulfill the requirement laid down for appearing in CSS exams 2012 are eligible to appear in exams if permitted by the competent authority in their departments or offices. No Government employee shall be competent to apply without the prior permission in writing from his/her department/office as the case may be, and such permissions must accompany the application. Candidates who join Government service after submitting their applications for admission to the examination should also submit the Departmental permission immediately thereafter.A candidate, who after submitting such Departmental permission, joins Civil Service Academy or is transferred to another Department, should also obtain the permission of that Department and submit the same to the Commission as soon as possible.A candidate who has left Government service should submit with his/her application the original as well as a copy of his/her discharge/service certificate.A candidate who has been dismissed from Government or semi Government Service will not be eligible for admission to the examination. If a great number of candidates apply for the CSS 2012 so the decision of the authority would be final about the limitation of the candidates to appear in the CSS exams 2012.If the Federal Public Service Commission of Pakistan (FPSC) imposed a limit and the number of applied candidates exceeds that limit, the commission will select from applicants. This selection will be based on the accurate representation of provinces/areas of Pakistan as well as the various age concessions.

Students should read this booklet carefully.Rs.50 will be deposited by all candidates in the account of Government Treasury/ State Bank of Pakistan “1252__Health MISC MEDICAL (CENTRAL)”. The challan copy should be handed over to the president of the Central Medical Board at the time of medical examination.Rs.300/- before examination by a Medical Board in the case of candidates who qualify in the written examination. In Pakistan, an increasing number of academies have opened up to prepare students for the most difficult examination in the country. Most of these academies are situated in Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad though a few have also recently situated in Hyderabad and Sukkur. Below is a list of recognized academies, known to produce good results, by region; List of Academies/tutors in Lahore with contact details:Kips College Lahore Forces Academy - Lahore KIPS College FaisalabadKIPS College Gujranwala Officers Open Academy Lahore KIPS College Sargodha For students, who intend to prepare without the help of academies, studying at a library can be of benefit due to the availability of reference material, books, and national and international journals. Also, the chances of distraction are quite low in this case and the environment makes the library a sound place to study.A few weeks before the examination, students tend to study for at least 5 hours a day though some can average 8 hours per day. Group study can also be of benefit for friends who intend to take the examination together.Students must identify their weaknesses. Those from villages or cult sacks, tend to be weak in English and a generous amount of time must be devoted to mastering their English abilities. Since the compulsory courses must be taken, students must master those compulsory courses which they have had trouble understand previously as well. Most students, from well establish schools tend to lag at general knowledge and current affairs courses and must gain tutorial help from teachers or books to remove such hindrances. Most students who have taken the exam in the past have recommended the Doggar’s ISSB Guide and Dogar’s AD or SI Guide.WHEN TO START PREPARING FOR CSS EXAMINATIONS 2012It may be a fair strategy to begin preparation for the compulsory courses first. Sometimes, the lesser the time available for preparation of the exam the better the chance of success, the reason being the to-the-point study, accessing only the relevant topics and syllabus thus concentrating on the most important and likely questions when the time frame is short and limited. Also, as previously mentioned, the exam can be given thrice by an individual. Hence, if he/she feels that the time frame is short for preparation, they can always give it again, the next time more equipped with the necessary details of the exam, its format and proper allocation of time.
